Snowflakes in quilling technique - 5 ways to create
On New Year's holidays you want to decorate the house in an original and bright way. This task is not simple, when in the arsenal of jewelry only standard garlands and toys. To create a unique home decor you need to show imagination and make jewelry yourself. Effectively and beautifully look snowflakes in the quilling technique, which you can not buy in a store and you will not meet with acquaintances.
What is quilling
This kind of art can be called "paper-twisting". The principle of creating figures in the quilling technique is based on a simple thing - twisting thin strips of paper, and then connecting them into a single whole. The quilling technique can be simple, and can reach a high level of complexity. Works of art can be obtained from strips of paper. Pictures and figures from quilling are created from thinly cut strips of paper, which are twisted with different density by means of a special rod with a hole. Instead of a special rod, the rod can come from a ballpoint pen, a thin knitting needle or a toothpick.
For quilling, medium-density paper is needed, but not thin, otherwise the figures will not hold shape well. The width of the strip of paper can be from 1 mm to several centimeters, but thinner strips are rarely used, usually a width of 3 to 5 mm is usually needed. For complex models, ready-made strips of paper with colored cuts are sold: the color of the cut may be the same as that of paper, but may differ.
Elements for snowflakes
To create snowflakes, you do not need the costs for special paper and knitting needles: as a material, you need to cut white sheets of paper into stripes yourself with a stationery knife. The optimal width of the strip for snowflakes is 0.5 cm. For twisting, it is necessary to use a rod from a handle or a toothpick.
The first stage of manufacturing any snowflakes is the creation of blanks.
A tight ring or a tight spiral : the easiest element of quilling. To create it you need to take a strip of paper, insert one end into the slot of the tool and tightly, with a uniform tension, wind it on the rod and, without removing it from the rod, glue the free end of the paper to the figure.
Loose ring, spiral or roll : you need to wind the paper on the toothpick, carefully remove the resulting spiral, relax and use glue to fix the free end of the strip.
Drop : we wind the strip on the rod, loosen it, fix the free end and pinch the structure on one side.
Arrow . The element is made from a drop: it is necessary to make a notch in the central part of the drop.
Eye or petal : we take a strip of paper and tightly wind on the toothpick. We pull out a toothpick and give paper a little untwisted. The tip of the paper is fixed with glue and "pinch" the spiral from two opposite sides.
Sprig or horns : the strip of paper is folded in half, the ends of the paper look up. On the toothpick, in the direction opposite to the fold, wind the right edge of the strip, pull out the toothpick, leave in this form. Do the same with the other end of a strip of paper.
Heart : as for the twig, you need to bend the strip of paper in half, but then the ends of the paper should be twisted, not in opposite directions, but inward.
Month: we make a free spiral, then we take a tool of a larger diameter - a pen or pencil, and we press a tightly obtained spiral. Let go and fix the edge.
A looped element : it is necessary to make folds on a strip of paper after 1 cm. The result is a broken figure. The glue line is applied with glue and each measured piece is bent one by one and fixed.
The fold is an auxiliary element that does not require twisting. To get a fold from the paper strip, it needs to be bent in half, bend each edge outward at a distance of 2 cm from the edge, and the resulting bends once again bend in half so that the ends of the strip look down.
Snowflake for Beginners # 1
Snowflakes in quilling technique may differ in form and complexity of implementation. Some models amaze with intricacy and skill of execution. But even simple snowflakes for beginners look spectacular and beautiful.
The first master class for beginners will show how to make a snowflake from only 2 parts: a free spiral and a petal.
- It is necessary to wind 16 free spirals and 17 petals.
- When there are blanks, you can start building a snowflake. Prepare a sliding work surface - a glossy log or file, lay one spiral on it and set the petals around tightly.
- It is necessary to glue the petals alternately with each other lateral surfaces, and fix the spiral in the center. Let the flower dry.
- The remaining 8 petals must be pasted between the existing petals.
- At the end, spirals are glued to each free corner of the petals and the snowflake is ready.
Snowflake for Beginners # 2
If the previous snowflake is simple and concise, you can make a more complex model using more basic elements.
- Twisting 12 petals, 6 tight spirales, 12 branches.
- From 12 branches we make "bushes": we join two branches one by one with the help of glue, we allow to dry.
- Six petals are glued together by side surfaces into one element.
- Between the petals paste bushes.
- To the outer corners of the flower obtained, we adhere taut spirals.
- To the tight spirals we fasten 6 more petals.
It turns out a rich snowflake, which can be transformed if you perform basic details not from one color, but two: for example, white and blue or white and cream.
Snowflake with loops
A snowflake with loopy elements looks elegant and bulky. Such a figure consists of 6 loop elements, 6 twigs, 6 petals or eyes.
The assembly is carried out in the following sequence:
- We glue the loop elements together with each other.
- Between the mustaches of each twig we glue along the petal.
- Sprigs with glued petals are glued between each pair of loop elements. The snowflake is ready.
Snowflake with hearts
You can make a snowflake in a romantic style.
Prepare:
- 6 branches;
- 12 hearts;
- 6 drops;
- 6 petals;
- 6 tight rings.
Let's proceed:
- The first stage is to make a snowflake center: 6 tight rings should be laid out around the circle with a template and glued to each other.
- Between the pairs of rings symmetrically to each other we glue the hearts.
- In the center of each heart, in the place where the bent edges touch, we paste the petals.
- To the free angle of the petals, the curled edges of the remaining hearts are glued.
- Leave the half-finished snowflake for a while and paste between the antennae branches on the petals.
- Sprigs with petals are glued between the hearts in the first circle.
Snowflake from the crescents
Unusually it looks like a snowflake from the elements in the form of crescents. They will need 12 pieces.
In addition to these figures, you will need:
- 6 marksman;
- 6 petals;
- 6 hearts;
- 6 folds.
Let's proceed:
- We glue the sides of the arrows so that the elements form a flower.
- The corners of the months are glued together in pairs, so that the conditional circles turn out.
- We glued the months of elongated edges into the recess of each arrow.
- We prepare twigs: one must glue their antennae together.
- Finished branches with the tips attached to the free edges of the glued crescents.
- In "protruding" trunks of branches, we paste inverted hearts.
- Between the antennae of two adjacent branches are fastened creases.
